Synergy and Precision: The Partnership of Crown Ceram and Prodways Group Shapes the Future of Dental 3D Printing
Customer Interview
Amidst the backdrop of groundbreaking innovations showcased at the Formnext expo, the Prodways Group team and Frédéric Rapp, CEO of the esteemed Crown Ceram Laboratory, revisit their enduring partnership. Since March 2018, Crown Ceram, a pivotal force in the French dental prosthetics sector for about four decades, has ventured into digital transformation with the support of Prodways Machines.
With no fewer than three high-precision dental 3D printers – a ProMaker LD10 and two ProMaker LD20s – installed at their production sites, Crown Ceram perfectly exemplifies the ambition and long-term vision of this technological alliance. This interview, conducted amidst the bustle of the Formnext trade show, serves as an opportunity to highlight the symbiosis between the excellence of French tradition in dentistry and the advancements in 3D printing brought by Prodways Group.
Do you think that 3D printing has a future?
F.R : 3D printing didn’t exist when I was a child. So, it’s a new technology that is evolving very quickly, I find. It’s certain that it has a future!
3D printing is a very demanding sector, and as a company, we must work with the leaders, and I think that Prodways is one of these leaders.
Comment Prodways intervient auprès de Crown Ceram ?
F.R : The service from Prodways is really fantastic for us, and we have been very satisfied with it from the beginning.
The team is very committed, and that’s really something that Prodways Machines has done very well for us in recent years. Whether remotely or on-site, Prodways is always there. What I mean by that is Prodways helps us in various ways.
- First of all, they are attentive to our needs in terms of the main application we use it for, namely printing dental models.
- And so, we worked very quickly with Prodways on identifying what we really needed in the machines, and which materials we had to use.
I think, therefore, that these two elements are the most important.
Would you recommend Prodways to other companies?
F.R : Oh yes, we can clearly recommend it. For anyone who uses 3D printing on a very large scale, I think that Prodways is the best solution.
In your opinion, what is the future of 3D printing?
F.R : I think that materials will certainly be the key factor in the 3D industry, and I firmly believe that the machine will adapt to whatever we are going to print, but there is a huge amount of work to do in the dental field on the different materials.
What do you think of the booth?
F.R : The booth is really cool, but what I like the most are the people at the booth. Honestly! Because I think it’s a great team.
Toward a 3D Printed Future: The Synergy of Human and Technological Collaboration at the Heart of the Partnership between Crown Ceram and Prodways Group
Ultimately, 3D printing has already transformed the landscape of dentistry, and the relationship between Crown Ceram and Prodways is a compelling example of this.
Prodways, with its attentive and customized support, has met the sophisticated demands of Crown Ceram, propelling this laboratory to the forefront of dental innovation. This collaboration isn’t just a story about technology, but more importantly, a story about human relationships and mutual trust established between the two teams.
The enthusiastic endorsement from Frédéric Rapp speaks to the values that Prodways Group embodies for its clients.
The future of 3D printing seems promising, driven by continuous innovation in materials and the adaptability of machines.
But beyond technical advancements, it’s the people, the team behind the technology, that make all the difference. The success of the Prodways stand at the Formnext fair only confirms this reality: great technologies are only made possible by great teams.

Customized healthcare through 3D printing
The use of 3D printing in the medical industry has become increasingly significant, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. While 3D printing is often associated with prototyping, it has proven to be useful in the design and fabrication of medical devices, such as face shields and other protective gear, for hospitals and healthcare workers. However, 3D printing has been an important tool in the field of dentistry for many years. Its cutting-edge technology offers unparalleled flexibility and enables faster, more effective access to dental care.
